Synopsis
A FANG-tastically funny adventures series, perfect for 7+ readers and fans of Amelia Fang!
If Kevin the Vampire was already beside himself with excitement at visiting the Festival of Fear, he's now even more so. His new best friend Susie and an extremely rare draffin called Gerald have joined his family's carnival. It's going to be better than ever! They might even win Carnival of the Year...
But because they are running late, Kevin's family need to take a shortcut through the perilous Wild Woods, where no one ever goes because of the extremely wicked witch who lives there. But that should be fine as long as no one gets out and no one eats anything ... right?
Kevin will be at the Festival before he knows it. After all, nothing ever goes wrong for the Carnival Monstromo...
Look out for Kevin's other adventure, A Most Mysterious Monster!
"Full of hilarious, highly illustrated mayhem" Guardian. "Loved it. Full of heart, laughs and adventure." Dermot O'Leary. "Fearfully funny, and a book to get your teeth into! You'll be Kevin's biggest fang!" Danny Wallace.

Having read Kevin the Vampire, I was keen to see where Matt Brown took his lead characters and Kevin the Vampire: A Wild and Wicked Witch didn't disappoint. Filled with wonderful descriptive language and crazy creatures (who knew a draffin was half dragon and half griffin?), this adventure sees Kevin and the Carnival Monstromo heading to Monstros City to take part in the Dragon Parade.
Kevin's best friend Susie Cabbage, who he met in the first book, joins them as they embark on an unexpected journey that sees them both perform some pretty amazing tricks, mainly the Danger Dive of Death, whilst uncovering the truth about Uncle Drax's falling-out with Lazarus Vandross. This carefully planned plot has twists which children will identify with as well as fantastic powers which will bring joy. Imagine being able to change form between vampire and bat!
The detailed monochrome illustrations bring the characters to life on each page and allow the reader to be further immersed into the story. They break up the text allowing the young reader to maintain their motivation and reading resilience as they embrace the amazing adventure. The ending is a brilliant opportunity to discuss disagreements and fallings out that have happened stemming from misunderstandings.
This book will be loved by early chapter book readers looking for a little sprinkle of the unexpected, humour and a love of all things vampire. It would be a wonderful addition to school libraries and could be used as a class reader to develop reading for pleasure. Pupils are going to struggle to put this book down.
