Synopsis
A hilarious story from master of the absurd, Jon Agee, where a boy finds out that his pet rhinoceros can do more than he bargained for!
If you should ever get a rhinoceros for a pet, you're in for a surprise. It won't chase a ball. Or a stick. Or a frisbee. In fact, according to the experts, a rhinoceros does only two things: pop balloons and poke holes in kites. But don't be discouraged. As you'll discover in this book, rhinoceroses can do more-so much more-than that!

Ever fancied a rhinoceros as a pet? Well, when this boy bought one from the pet shop he was in for a surpriseā¦ it did nothing. He even considered swapping it for a hippopotamus! After seeking advice from an expert, even they agreed they were quite boring; rhinoceroses only pop balloons and poke holes in kites. So what will happen when a robbery occurs and the robbers are escaping in a hot air balloon and in a kite? Will the rhinoceros finally do something? Is popping balloons and poking holes in kites really all they can do?
My Rhinoceros is a funny tale with great illustrations. Children will love predicting what will happen next, and when any story involves the word 'poo', children are fully engaged and laughing!

An interesting story about a pet rhino! A little boy gets a pet rhino and is disappointed by how little he does. He doesn't fetch sticks, play frisbee or roll over but he does end up saving the day! This is an unusual story; parts of it are entertaining but it seems to be lacking a bit of substance. The rhino is the hero of the story in the end but there isn't too much action to keep the reader interested throughout the rest of the story.
The pictures are nicely coloured and are attractive, illustrating the story well. Suitable for independent readers who are gaining their confidence with picture books and would also be enjoyed as part of story time either at school or home.
