WIN an author event with Amy Wilson

To celebrate her new book, A Far Away Magic, we have joined with author Amy Wilson and publisher Macmillan Children's Books in a special competition to win an author event with Amy Wilson, together with ten copies of her new book!

Amy will visit the winning school if she can - she is based near Bristol - or she can do the event online if it's not possible to visit.

For the event, which is aimed at children aged ten to 13 years, Amy will focus on creative writing as well as her new book, A Far Away Magic, and answering questions from pupils. We will make sure you have copies of the book prior to her event.

All you need to do to enter the competition is to tell us why you would like to host the event with Amy. You can email us at:
info@ReadingZone.com
(Subject: Amy Wilson)
or respond, below.

The competition will close on Friday 16th March; the event can take place at a time agreed by the school and Amy Wilson during the summer term.

  • Working in a school where reading has been a real focus for us, I have been desperate to organise some author visits. Despite several offers, budget has limited our abilities to host such event. Our children across the school now show a real interest in reading for pleasure and I know a visit from Amy will continue to develop this passion in them. My class have been using twitter to contact authors (@Primary5Teach) and I have seen their attitudes to reading come leaps and bounds this year because of it. I can only imagine what meeting an author in real life would do for them?! Particularly one that is local to us.

  • We would love to host this event for Amy at Mendip Green Primary School, Weston-super-Mare, because we believe that meeting with authors and illustrators are invaluable experiences for children. Such events can inspire children to read and write. They expose children to books and authors that they may have otherwise overlooked.

  • I would love an author visit for our school. We are working really hard to promote reading at home. Whilst the younger children have responded fantastically to our reading challenge, the older children need a little more inspiration and I think that this could help significantly. We are a school in South Gloucestershire - so very close!

  • I run Inkpots Writing Workshops in a number of schools in Sussex and are huge fans of Amy’s books. I have seen the magic appear on a child’s face when they have read one of Amy’s books. She opens up a world where children can live through their own magic so we would love to welcome Amy to one of our workshops.

  • Live author events create a buzz and make reading a collective social experience. The girls at KGGS are encouraged to read new authors and new genres through a programme of library lessons. I enjoyed reading 'A Girl Called Owl' - I liked the idea of Mother Nature keeping everything in balance - Jack Frost's daughter took me into a magical world! Our Year 7s would love to meet Amy Wilson.

  • We would love to host this visit at our school. We really believe that hosting author visits are a wonderful boost for improving reading for pleasure and for getting the students to read books by authors that they would not usually consider. Visits really inspire our students and it would be brilliant to give them a new opportunity to be inspired.

  • We would love to host Amy in our school in Oxford. We're a school that believes that reading is the key and the kite to finding and fulfilling your dreams. Meeting an author and listening to an author would provide our students with an opportunity they have never had and may not get for a few more years. I want them to see and hear that they can be and do what they want and with Amy I think they may believe they can!

  • What a fantastic opportunity it would be to host Amy Wilson at High Down Juniors. A visit from an author would certainly delight those that have already enjoyed your books and inspire those that haven't yet discovered their magic.
