Andy Riley on drawing and writing

Andy Riley - screen writer, comic creator and author of the King Flashypants series, joined ReadingZone Live to talk about how drawing helped him to create his new series for children, starring a boy who is a king.

During this ReadingZone Live event, Andy talked about how adapting David Walliams's The Boy in a Dress and Gangsta Granny for television and how this inspired him to write his own children's books.

He based the stories on his own childhood as a boy "who makes lots of mistakes" and has a lot to learn. He decided to make his main character a boy because "while there are a lot of books with princesses, there aren't enough boys who are kings in children's stories".
