When We Walked on the Moon

When We Walked on the Moon

David Long
Wide Eyed Editions
ISBN: 9781786030917

Published in 2019 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 13's moon landing, this text is a visually stunning and fascinating non-fiction text.

Covering the Apollo missions from their inception to successes and the ultimate winding down of the moon program, this book is highly readable. Long has included interesting facts and information about each missions. Some are well-known, others are new information. Included biographies of the astronauts add to the information.

Kalda's stunning visuals enhance the experience of this text. Each page is stunning and requires repeated views to take in the details. The double page spread of Nasa's Control room is wordless but adds so much detail to the information presented.

This book is an excellent addition to any non-fiction library. It would work well in a collection about space and could be used in the classroom or purely for enjoyment. It would lend itself more to upper key stage 2 / key stage 3 children due to the amount of text but younger children have plenty here and will find equal pleasure from highly readable text.
