Sylvie wakes one night, suddenly, without knowing why. Then she sees the most spectacular sight - a pair of wings, enormous in size, made of the softest snow-white feathers imaginable. An angel in her bedroom ... a SNOW angel! He tells her that he is here to look after her, for Sylvie is not as well as she seems... Many months later, as Sylvie recovers from her illness, she longs to see her snow angel again. He saved her life! There is so much she wants to tell him, so much she wants to know! Will he ever come back to her? And how can Sylvie make sure that everyone she loves has their own snow angel, to keep them safe, too?

Librarian's Book choice

Sylvie wakes one night to find a stranger in her room - a stranger whose outline shimmers, a stranger who has wings. It is her snow angel and he has come to help her for Sylvie is not as well as she seems. Many months later, as she recovers, Sylvie thinks about her angel and wants to see him again. Realising that he is with her when she needs him most, she is desperate for all those she knows and loves to have their own snow angel to keep them safe.

Beautifully atmospheric, Where Snow Angels Go is a magical story, full of charm. The artwork is striking, powerfully evocative of winter, perfectly complementing the text. There is a satisfying lyrical quality to the writing which makes the story flow beautifully if read aloud. The relationship between the angel and Sylvie is beautifully depicted, offering reassurance and comfort, as she doesn't forget him, knowing he is there, watching her as he promised. There's even a touch of science rather than magic to explain his formation!

By granting Sylvie's wish - even though, as he reminds her, he is not a genie from a bottle, the snow angel allows her to share the joy of snow and the gift of an angel of their own for those she loves.

A perfect story for sharing at Christmas, Where Snow Angels Go would make a wonderful Christmas gift, sure to join the list of annual favourites.
