After reading A Curse So Dark and Lonely I couldn't wait to get my hands on A Heart So Fierce and Broken and it felt wonderful to be back in the Kingdom of Emberfall. Brigid Kemmerer's storytelling flows and it's utterly compulsive. It's difficult to say too much about this novel without giving pivotal plotlines away and you definitely need to read A Curse So Dark and Lonely to appreciate the full force of this lush and complex fantasy. As well as getting to know more about Harper and Rhen, this sequel focuses much more on Grey this time round as he discovers his new identity and struggles to come to terms with what this means. We really get to see his growth from being a commander sworn to a prince, a person who no longer takes orders but gives them and finally accepts who he was destined to be

We also meet a new character Lia Mara, a princess from Sly Shallow who is incredibly likeable, she's genuine and a feisty female protagonist - her relationship with her sister, Nolla Verin was endearing and lovely to follow despite Nolla Verin being quite nasty and cruel at times.

A modern fairy tale, A Heart So Fierce and Broken, part of the Cursebreakers series is seriously good, it’s filled with magic, relationships and romance - the third book can't come quickly enough!

'Once upon a time...happily ever after'. Have you ever wondered what happens when your favourite fairy tale ends? What do they do next? Does the fairytale continue?

A Heart so Fierce and Broken is the sequel to A Curse so Dark and Lonely, which is an amazing re-telling of Beauty and the Beast ( sorry no singing teapots etc in this one).

At the end of the first book, all appears to be well, the monster has been vanquished and Rhen and Harper are together. Grey has been given his freedom and Lilith has been destroyed. So everything is good? What could the author possibly write about in the second book?... Grey!

Grey holds a secret that only he knows, it's a burden carrying it about but he can tell no one as it will not only destroy Rhen but will divide Emberfall, so he keeps himself away from others as much as possible and now goes by the name, Hawk. Meanwhile, Rhen, Emberfall's future King has discovered that there is one surviving 'magesmith' (magician) that roams his country, this person could, according to the rumours that he is hearing, could also be the true heir to the throne. Rhen needs to find him, stop the rumours and destroy his magic as he doesn't want to become a prisoner of black magic once again. He sends his soldiers in search of this person, when he finds him it has devastating consequences for him. How will he react?

The Queen of Syhl Shallow, Karis Luran also wants to find the true heir of Emberfall as she needs to form an alliance with him for the good of her people, but does she have a more sinister motive in mind, as Karis is a violent and fierce ruler? She travels into Emberfall with her two daughters Nolla Verin and Lia Mara. Nolla, the younger of the sisters is to be the next in line to the throne as she is cold and fierce like her mother, Lia Mara is thoughtful, and kind but now appears to have no place at her mothers side.

Alongside all of this drama, meeting up with existing characters the author has also added new characters into the mix; along with the two sisters mentioned above there is Tycho a teen who ends up as Grey's sidekick and Iisak, who is a scraver, a magical vicious human/bird creature that has lots of intriguing layers. But don't worry, they don't cause confusion to the plot they just bring more action and adventure!

Don't want to give to much more away as I want you to read the book, believe me it's well worth it! The story is told through Lia Mara and Grey in alternating chapters making the plot a page turner. A little warning here as the pages do contain, violence, death, scenes of torture and abuse along with trust, loyalty, conflict and a dash of romance to top it all off. Making this superbly written book with its 464 pages suitable for 14+ readers. Would also be suitable for book clubs due to the many interesting talking points.

One more thing to mention... The ending... how can the author do that to the reader? Such a cliffhanger!! That's all you are going to get from me on that, hopefully there will be a third book out very soon to explain it all, if so I will be one of the first to read it.
