Interview

Both my mother and father were involved in the theatre. I'm not sure how this influenced me but I'm sure it did. First of all, I was really privileged in that I was taken to see plays all the time.

I've always loved stories, both being told them and making them up when I was playing. My bother and sister were quite a bit older than me and I found it pretty easy, as I'm sure all children do, to step into my own world. I wrote my first book in my twenties: I knew from that moment on that was what I wanted to do.
I also play guitar and bass guitar in a rock 'n' roll band ... but probably the less said about that, the better!
Finally, now I teach and am therefore in the company of young people a lot of the time, this has had a significant influence on me. I want to know what they think; I hear their talk and to some extent I keep in touch with their interests, and also worries and concerns.
