David Walliams' new winter tale

16th Oct 18

David Walliams, who continuously heads up the children's bestseller lists, has a new book coming on 6th November called The Ice Monster (14.99), published by HarperCollins Children's Books.

The audio book, read by David himself and a star-studded cast, will be available on 20th November.

The Ice Monster is described as "the perfect winter's tale" by its publisher, inviting his readers to journey back to Victorian London for Walliams's "biggest adventure yet".

When Elsie, a young orphan, hears of the arrival of a mysterious Ice Monster - a woolly mammoth discovered at the North Pole - she's desperate to find out more. A chance encounter brings Elsie face to face with the creature, and sparks the beginning of the adventure of a lifetime - from London to the heart of the Arctic.

This "comedic tale of adventure, possibility and the glorious unlikely friendship of a ten-year-old girl and a 10,000-year-old mammoth" will be illustrated by Tony Ross.

David Walliams said he was thrilled to be sharing this book with the world and that he had had a "magnificent time writing it; "It is an adventure story set in London in 1899 with a cast including Queen Victoria, the Chelsea Pensioners and a Woolly Mammoth."

Walliams is also publishing a picture book this autumn, Geronima, a funny story about a spirited baby penguin determined to fly, with a little help from his dad.

HarperCollins will celebrate ten years of David Walliams publishing with a further two special editions of his 'hero' novels - Grandpa's Great Escape and The Boy in the Dress, which will be published with new colour illustrations by Sir Quentin Blake and Tony Ross, with introductions to the stories from Walliams.

The titles will launch in hardback on the 29 November (14.99) and join Mr Stink and Gangsta Granny, which were published in March 2018.
