Homeschooling dyslexics?

7th May 20

Publisher Barrington Stoke has created a free downloadable resource for parents and carers supporting dyslexic readers during lockdown, with articles, advice and activities.

The Homeschooling Help for Lockdown Pack is aimed at those parents, carers and educators now supervising dyslexic students and contains a variety of tips on reading and homeschooling during lockdown, including ideas for how to engage dyslexic readers, access to activities and resources for all ages, and links to a range of organisations that can offer further support.

The pack also contains specialist advice from Caroline Bateman, the founder of Achieve Now, working to empower dyslexic children. She said, "When life gives us lemons there are chances to make lemonade! This is a unique opportunity for dyslexic children to learn in ways that suit them away from the stresses and strains of school life."

Jane Walker, Sales and Marketing Director at Barrington Stoke, says the Homeschooling Help for Lockdown Pack is aimed at the "massive community" of parents and carers who have children and young people with dyslexia. "There is so much free material available online and it must be so overwhelming not to mention time-consuming to navigate it," she said.

"We want this pack to be a good starting point for those families and an opportunity for us to share our advice, as well as supporting the work of the many brilliant dyslexia and literacy organisations we have collaborated with over the years."
