The "prestigious Wicked Young Writers' Award" (The Times) was established by the long-running musical Wicked in order to link the important messages of the production with a competition that would inspire young people to use their writing to look at life a little differently.

The 2013 Wicked Young Writers' Award will launch on Monday 2 September.

By registering in advance of this as a Wicked Young Writers' Award school, you will receive EXCLUSIVE content that includes video tips from Chair Judge Michael Morpurgo plus a poster to decorate your classroom or library!

The first 50 schools to register will also receive a free anthology of the 2012 winners' writing.

The Award, supported by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, recognises excellence in writing, encourages creativity and helps develop writing talent in young people between 5 and 25 years from all backgrounds and areas of the UK and Ireland.

Entries can range from pieces of poetry or prose. There are five age categories: 5-7, 8-10, 11-14, 15-17 and 18-25.

A shortlist of the top 100 entrants will be invited to a very special prize event at the Apollo Victoria Theatre and will each receive a copy of the annual Wicked Young Writers' Award anthology containing their writing.

The overall winners from each category will receive a signed certificate, £50 worth of book tokens, £100 worth of Hachette books for their school library PLUS a family ticket to see the show with an exclusive backstage tour!

Judges for the 2013 Award include poet and playwright Dean Atta, former Children’s Laureate and bestselling author Michael Morpurgo, and Jonathan Douglas, Director of the National Literacy Trust.
