Celebrating poetry with Roger Stevens

Poet Roger Stevens joined ReadingZone Live to help mark National Poetry Day on Thursday 28 September, 2017. Roger is an ambassador for National Poetry Day and he encouraged the children to develop their own poetry skills.

The event was hosted by Fern Hill Primary School in Kingston Upon Thames with other schools joining by video conference.

During the event, Roger talked about his work and writing poetry, and shared some of his published poetry. His published collections including It's Not My Fault, I Wish I Had a Pirate Hat, 1066 and Before That, and Off By Heart: Poems for Children to Learn and Remember.

Children taking part in the event asked the poet questions about where his ideas came from, does poetry need to rhyme and including unexpected things in your poems.
