Synopsis
A charming ecological fable of community and friendship from award-winning author-illustrator Simon James.
Frog and his friends all live happily together on the river. At least they do until Beaver comes along. Beaver is determined to build the biggest and best dam that anyone has ever seen, but it's so big that it stops all the water and Frog and his friends are forced to move. Frog tries to warn Beaver that his dam is too big, but inconsiderate Beaver just won't listen... A charming picture book with an environmental message from the acclaimed and award-winning Simon James.

Frog and his friends live a lovely, tranquil life on the banks of the river until Beaver moves into the neighbourhood. Beaver has an ambition to build the biggest dam anyone has ever seen and, in doing so, he causes trouble for Frog and his friends, eventually leaving them homeless. A kind deed from Frog brings gratitude from Beaver and, eventually, a return to the lovely tranquil life they all knew before, with the addition of their new neighbour. This book, with its beautiful watercolour illustrations, is perfect to share with small children and provides much to talk about together, from Beaver's decision to pursue a course of action without caring what effect it has on others, to Frog's kindly nature and desire to help others, even those who are at the root of the problem. There is also a message about respecting the natural environment and the habitats of wildlife. Picture book / Ages 3-6 years / Reviewed by June Hughes, school librarian.
